We’re all Netflix whores here at The Blood Sprayer.  From time to time, we like to share what’s tickling our pickles via the streaming site.  Well, here’s a roundup of stuff that comes highly recommended by yours truly…

Here Comes The Devil (Magnet Releasing)-Might be one of the best horror films of the last 5 or so years.  With nods to Italian horror and the Satanic possession movies of the 70′s,  Here Comes The Devil achieves what so few do anymore…scares the shit out of you.  It’s gory, sexy, evil, and horrific.  Just like it was meant to be.  Put this at the top of your queue!

When Jews Were Funny (SuddenStorm Entertainment)-Allen Zweig’s documentary details the history of Jewish comedy in such a beautiful, brilliant manner it’s almost impossible to not fall in love with this movie within the first 3 minutes.  Featuring interviews with legends like Shelley Berman and then sharing the juxtaposition of today’s Jewish comedy icons such as Marc Maron gives an insight into how the history of the Jewish community has affected not only their sense of humor, but also the landscape of comedy in general.  If you’re a comedy nerd, then this is not to be missed.

Rapture-Palooza (Lionsgate)-If you have an abiding belief in a god that would bring about the end of the world via a rapture, plagues, etc. it’s best that you steer clear of this.  Now, if you love great performances and brilliantly constructed script about the end of the world…we have something to talk about.  Rapture-Palooza is a dark comedy with full on belly laugh material.  Chris Matheson & Paul Middleditch’s script will speak the loudest to us recovering youth group kids who’ve found a sensible enlightenment in our adult years. Akin to a David Wain comedy, the cast is bursting at the seams with some of today’s funniest actors.  Eat this up, smartasses!  It was made for you!

We Are What We Are (Memento Films)-This remake of the 2010 film of the same name is a beautifully crafted horror film that upholds the body of the original while making its own mark as an outstanding horror film.  We Are What We Are is a cannibal film tangled in an American Gothic.  It’s a stunning looking film filled with great performances (Michael Parks is sensational!), but it’s still a bonafide horror flick through and through.  Director Jim Mickle’s name has become synonymous with kick ass horror films over the last couple years and this one is no exception.  What starts as an eerie slow burner turns into a vicious explosion that will make the most jaded of us smile.
